Update August 6, 2020
My husband and I love the Milwaukee Brewers. For the past several years we have gotten a package of tickets to about 4 games each season. Each year we wish we could go to spring training in Arizona, but unfortunately it always happens during Lent. This year we had gotten our package of tickets to 4 games and looked forward to the season. But, alas, as we all know, the major league baseball season has not been what it normally is. COVID19 shut down spring training in March. The regular season did not begin until summer camp on July 1st. Opening day did not happen until July 23. As the regular season started, there was a COVID19 outbreak among the Florida Marlins which led to the postponement of several games. Then the Brewers opening series was postponed because of a COVID19 outbreak among the St. Louis Cardinals. It will be a vastly shortened season, if the season can be completed at all.
It’s been just about a week since Governor Evers issued an executive order for everyone to wear face masks. He did that because the number of COVID19 cases in Wisconsin is on the rise. All but 4 counties in the state, including Door County, are now at high levels. At the end of June, the number of cases in Door County was very low, and places began to open up. Suddenly, the cases began to rise. The mask mandate is an attempt to get the number of cases to go back down.
At about the same time as the Governor’s executive order came out, the Wisconsin Council of Churches sent out information encouraging all churches in Wisconsin to go back to online only worship, if they had already opened for in-person worship. Churches have unfortunately been notorious places for the spread of COVID19. With the number of cases having reached the high point in most counties, churches once again went back to online only. Some ELCA churches in our synod had opened to in-person worship and had to quickly stop holding in-person worship because of cases in their congregations or in their immediate communities.
I miss being at Brewer games. I miss having in-person worship. I miss so much of what we can’t do right now. But I also understand why things are the way they are. To keep the majority of people safe, we need to follow the prescribed guidelines. We might remember the saying, “It’s better to be safe than sorry.” That’s where we are in society now. We need to be safe so that we are not sorry.
I miss you all!

A Message from the Stewardship Committee:
It’s time to step up because we can’t step out. Bay View Lutheran Church, in consideration of the health of its members, is discontinuing worship for the time being. However, the church will still incur monthly bills. Without services, the weekly collection will be zero. Please be mindful and generous as you think about your church in this difficult time. You can donate through the website, or you can send a check to church each week or month. You could give a good-sized donation once, or once in a while. Continue to pray for Bay View Lutheran Church, its staff and its members. We can all rejoice together when the health danger passes and we meet again in church. Till then, keep praying-and keep giving.
