Karen Newbern
Council President & Liaison to Youth
I’m excited to be on the church council and serving as Council President and Liaison to the Youth Board. My husband Bruce and I joined Bay View when we moved to Sturgeon Bay in 2000. We have three daughters and four adorable grandchildren. My involvement here has been mostly musical, first singing in choir and now with the contemporary music group. I work as the Nursery Manager at Door Landscape and Nursery in Carlsville, a company specializing in the use of native prairie and woodland plants.

Council Vice President & Liaison to Worship
When I retired my wife Pam and I moved to Door County, building a house in Sevastopol. Retirement did not last long as we both went to work for the Door County Maritime Museum, Pam working as a bookkeeper and I went to work at the Cana Island Lighthouse as site manager now retired (again), currently I work part-time as a fitness instructor at the Y. We joined Bayview in 2005. Over the years I’ve participated in the Christ Care Ministry; served on the worship board, and have had the chance to share in worship as a lector and early on as an assisting minister. In our free time Pam and I enjoy the outdoors volunteering at the Ridges.

I moved in Sturgeon Bay to practice law and joined Bay View in 1986 when I married Wendy Goetsch, a long time member of the congregation. I have raised four children and they have blessed me with seven grandchildren. I have served on church council several times and several committees including youth, worship, and sharing boards over the years and a member of our choir for more than 30 years. I was also very pleased to be a member of the call committee that brought Pastor Tim to our church ten years past.

I reside in Sturgeon Bay with my wife Kristi and our fur baby (dog) Willow. I have been blessed with one son, two stepchildren and one grandson. We are a loving blended family.
I have been involved in the community through three terms on the Sturgeon Bay City Council, past member of the SB Jaycees, active member of the DC Boys & Girls Boy Club facilities committee, active member of the SB Lions Club, active volunteer for the Sturgeon Bay Bass Open.
I was raised in Bay View as my parents joined the church in 1970. My family was very active in this church and I was confirmed under Pastor Rick. I was a member of the Ministry Site Profile Committee & the Call Committee that helped bring Pastor Greathouse here. Even though I believe that he found us.

Jody Arbter
Council Secretary & Liaison to Learning
I moved to Sturgeon Bay in 1982 and became a member of Bay View in 1987. My husband, Arbie, and I have three adult children and they participated in Sunday School, Confirmation, and High School Youth Group. As they moved through all of the education activities at Bay View, I too was involved teaching Sunday School, mentoring confirmation, and being an adult leader for youth group. I have also been involved musically at Bay View playing flute. After working 37 years in the public schools as a Speech Language Pathologist, I retired in 2019 and am finding many activities to keep me busy. As a council member, I look forward to serving as the education liaison and getting to know more of the Bay View family.
